Henri battles his way into the top five in Lonato
Henri Möhring once again put in an impressive performance at the fourth round of the WSK Super Master Series on the traditional South Garda Karting track in Lonato. On the 1,200-meter track, the young driver faced a top international field with a total of 375 drivers from 60 nations. Despite a difficult starting position in qualifying, the ADAC Hessen-Thüringen e.V. sponsored driver and member of Motorsport Team Germany fought his way impressively to the front and finished a strong fifth in the final.
For Henri, it was his third race in the OK-N Junior category. After several days of testing on the track, the Dörr Motorsport driver traveled to Italy with a lot of confidence. In free practice, he confirmed these expectations and consistently mixed it up with the front runners. However, qualifying did not go ideally: in the end, he was only in 24th place – a starting position that meant he had some catching up to do in the heats. But that is exactly where Henri showed his strength. In the first heat, he started from twelfth position and fought his way up to sixth place – including the fastest lap of the race. On Saturday morning, he made another strong comeback: starting from twelfth place again, he fought his way up to fourth. However, a three-second penalty meant he was classified seventh. In the third heat, he stepped up his game once more, improving by seven positions to fifth and once again recording the fastest lap of the race.
With these strong performances, Henri made up a total of 18 positions and finished the heats in sixth place overall, an impressive comeback in the highly competitive OK-N Junior class. However, a minor setback followed in the pre-final: a defective membrane cost engine power and prevented an attack on the top positions. Nevertheless, Henri managed to finish in fifth place and thus started the final from seventh position.
He struggled with minor engine problems there too, but didn’t let that faze him. In a close race, he stayed consistently in the slipstream of the leading group and ultimately crossed the finish line in fifth place. “After qualifying, it was difficult, of course, but the heats were really strong. I was able to make up a lot of places in every race and set the fastest lap twice. Maybe more would have been possible in the final, but I’m still very happy with the weekend. A place on the podium would have been realistic,” said Henri, summarizing his race.
Henri Möhring is currently ranked eleventh in the championship, despite not having competed in the first two races of the season. With the grand finale of the WSK Super Master Series in Franciacorta, Italy, approaching, the goal is clear: to finish the final weekend with a podium finish.
