Henri Möhring wins DKM Super Heat in Mariembourg
After a marathon race in Italy, Henri Möhring returned to the German Mini Kart Championship (DMKM) last weekend. The first of five rounds of the highest German kart racing series took place in Mariembourg (Belgium). In sometimes changeable weather, the youngster experienced challenging races, but proved his fighting spirit and was rewarded with a victory in the Super Heat and fifth place in the final.
Henri Möhring traveled straight from southern Italy to Belgium to fight for his first points in the German championship over the Easter weekend. A premiere awaited all participants, with the championship taking place for the first time on the 1,352-meter race track on the border with France. The start was difficult for Henri. In qualifying and the heats on Saturday, he lacked important tenths of a second on the leaders. With eighth place in the evening, there was still enough room for improvement. The cards were reshuffled on Sunday: it started to rain and Henri proved his skills on the slippery track. He sprinted to the front in the Super Heat and took victory – a small stroke of liberation for the young racer from Team 7L-Performance.
The victory earned him second place on the grid for the final. It was dry again in the final and Henri found it difficult to defend his place in the leading pack. However, he didn’t let it get him down and was honored with a winner’s trophy at the finish line in fifth place. “We don’t have it easy this year. In cold temperatures and on narrow tracks, we don’t manage to deliver the necessary performance – we have to keep working hard on that. The victory in the rain gave me a big boost and gives me additional motivation for the rest of the season. Special thanks go to my team boss Mario Ljubic and his team. It was the first win for 7L and we worked very well together as a team,” summarized the man from Schöneck.
Henri’s next race will be from May 23-25 in the Italian championship, which will be held in Viterbo for the second round. He is already familiar with the track from the WSK Super Masters Series.
