P3 at RMC Germany at ArenaE in Mülsen
After the successful RMC Clubsport weekend in the ArenaE, Henri Möhring was able to confirm his consistently good performance at the ADAC Rotax Max Challenge race in Mülsen. With another podium and third place in the overall standings, he was now also able to establish himself in third place in the championship.
With temperatures of over 30 degrees Henri started with a lot of anticipation and courage on the first day of practice into the long race weekend with a total of 4 races, including two heats on Saturday and two races on Sunday. Already in the first practice session on the track it was clear that he would do everything to build on his performance of the previous weekend.
“Arena of Speed says is all. Love the top speed and overall track layout!”
A highlight for the young Micro pilot was already in the free practice on Friday. With a 0:58.346 he drove the fastest lap of the day and was able to beat his previous personal best time in Mülsen by more than half a second.
Saturday began with a good start to the official part of the event: a solid third place in the warm-up (0:58.828) behind his rivals Lennox Litzinger (0:58.659) and championship leader Maxim Becker (0:58.449). Henri finished qualifying as the second fastest driver (0:58.872) behind pole-setter Maxim Becker and ahead of Lennox Litzinger (0:59.047). With P2 in qualifying Henri started for the first time from the front row in a race. In Mülsen this unfortunately also meant the worse outside lane in the first right-hand bend after the start. He accepted this challenge and started the two heats with confidence.
After the start of the first heat race Henri found himself on P3 due to the worse outside lane. An exciting battle for second place began between Henri Möhring and Lennox Litzinger, who was able to fend off an attack from Henri as early as the second corner. The consistently faster speed would normally have given Henri a chance to keep up with the leader Maxim Becker, but his competitor Lennox Litzinger managed to block Henri consistently. Despite a warning for blocking, there was no time penalty for Litzinger, who ended up crossing the finish line just 3 tenths ahead of Henri. In this heat Henri gained the first important racing experience in which he was permanently blocked by a competitor and had a hard time to overtake.
The picture was very similar in the second heat race. Henri finished this race again on the third place, this time only 2 thousandths behind Lennox Litzinger. A real photo finish with the better outcome for the competitor and again a lot of important race experience on Henri’s way.
In the ‘Ranking after Heats’ Henri was able to finish Saturday in P3 and with important points for the overall ranking. This meant that he could start the race on Sunday from the third grid position on the better inside track.
The first race did not go according to plan at first. Henri had to settle for fourth place after the first turn. However, already in the first lap Henri was able to fight his way up to third place with a courageous overtaking maneuver past Joliena Marie Schultz. Again a duel for second place started between Henri Möhring and Lennox Litzinger. Through many overtaking attempts and consistent pressure on Lennox Litzinger, Henri was able to upset his front runner. The two gave each other nothing on the track, but it always remained fair. Due to this duel, the fifth placed Max Moor had the chance to work his way to the front and attack Henri in the 6th race lap. With an unusually high speed Max Moor was able to pass first Henri and then also Lennox Litzinger. Max Moor was subsequently disqualified due to a technical regulation violation and Henri took 3rd place behind Lennox Litzinger. Maxim Becker was able to benefit from this situation and the close race behind him and finished the race safely in P1.
In the second race, we were determined to get through the first corner directly behind Maxim Becker at the start, which Henri also managed to do. In the second turn after the end of the back straight Henri attacked directly the leader and brought himself into the worse position at the entrance of the turn and he had to line up as third behind Lennox Litzinger. Here Henri with more racing experience should have stayed behind the leader and initially ride along and try to break away. So it came again to duels for second place with a good end and P3 in the second heat for Henri Möhring.
All in all another very instructive race weekend with hard duels for second place and many important race experiences. Of course we are very satisfied with the overall result, but we have learned a lot, especially because of the better speed at first to drive with the leader.
