First WSK points in Lonato
The time had finally come at the weekend. After a long winter break due to his broken arm in November, Henri Möhring from Schöneck was back in action. The youngster faced the international competition at the start of the WSK Super Masters Series in Lonato. The Hessian delivered a great performance on the shores of Lake Garda and celebrated his first championship points.
“2024 will be an exciting year for me. After my first races in the Mini class last year, I’m now fully focused on it. In addition to the German Mini Kart Championship, I’m also competing in international races and am now making my debut in the World Series Karting (WSK),” said the youngster before the start of the race weekend.
Over 330 riders from 50 nations competed on the 1,200-meter-long race track in Italy. Henri had already spent several days testing on the track with his new team Kidix. He was accordingly motivated at the start and confirmed his strong test results. With 19th place in qualifying, he established himself at the front of the field and even more would have been possible. Henri had to overtake three riders on his fastest lap.
He knew how to take advantage of his good starting position during the heats. He finished the three close heats in 10th, 6th and 13th place. In the pre-final, Henri was in 5th position after a very good start in the first half of the race, but had to lose a few places as the race progressed due to his lack of experience. He finished his pre-final in 9th place and then went into the final race in a strong 14th place and had a hot race. After ten laps, he crossed the finish line in 15th place and celebrated his first championship point in the field of the world’s best young racers. He was also the best driver from Germany.
“I’m very happy with how the weekend went. I learned a lot and improved across the board. The fields are really close together, only a small mistake costs a few places straight away. I still lack a bit of experience in this environment, but in the end we exceeded all expectations,” said the ADAC Hessen-Thüringen e.V. protégé, summing up his impressions.
The nine-year-old racer will be traveling to Italy again next weekend. He will be preparing for the second event of the WSK Super Masters Series in Cremona. He has never raced on the circuit before and wants to use the time to prepare as best he can. The next round will then take place there from February 8-10.
