A start crash stops Henri Möhring in Lonato
The second round of the WSK Euro Series took Henri Möhring to the historic South Garda Karting Circuit in Lonato last weekend. Competing in a top-tier international field in the OK-N Junior class, the young driver faced the unique challenges of the Italian track and, above all, gained valuable experience for the rest of the season.
For the ADAC Hessen-Thüringen e.V. development driver, member of Motorsport Team Germany, and Dörr Motorsport driver, the weekend began under difficult conditions. The weather conditions had changed significantly compared to the previous test days. Intense sunlight created extremely high levels of grip, which posed new challenges for the setup.
In qualifying, he was unable to set up the kart optimally for the changed conditions. As a result, his starting position of 24th was correspondingly challenging. Bad luck compounded the situation in the subsequent heats: the only highlight was the third heat. Henri found his usual pace again and fought his way up to ninth place.
He built on that impressively in the pre-final. Starting from 13th on the grid, the young driver worked his way up to sixth place with strong passing moves and was among the fastest drivers on the track. However, a spoiler penalty dropped him back to ninth. The final ultimately ended in disappointment: After a good start, Henri was involved in a collision in the very first corner and was forced to retire early. As a result, a potential top finish slipped away.
“The weekend was definitely not easy. We learned a lot, especially in those extreme grip conditions. In the pre-final, we saw what was possible. We’ll take that with us and go on the offensive again in the final in Cremona,” Henri summed up.
Henri currently ranks eleventh in the championship. At the final round of the WSK Euro Series in Cremona, he wants to go on the offensive once more and make the leap back into the top ten. But first, the start of the German racing season is on the agenda. That will be followed immediately by a doubleheader, featuring the ADAC Kart Masters and the German Kart Championship in Mülsen.
